Celeste Findlay Brewer

A native of New York City and a product of the New York City public schools. Celeste Findlay Brewer is a cum laude graduate of Spelman College where she majored in music. After graduation from Spelman, Celeste taught reading in a Brooklyn, New York high school.

While teaching full-time Celeste earned a Master of Science in counseling from Long Island University in Brooklyn. Shortly thereafter she moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University Law School. She is an Emory Law School graduate and has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1979.

An experienced trial attorney, Celeste has handled thousands of cases in the superior and state courts during the 36 years that she has been a member of the Georgia Bar. Her experience ranges from handling very basic uncontested matters to cases involving complex issues.

Celeste focuses her practice on family law, which includes adoptions, divorce, legitimation, custody and child support and alimony matters. She also handles probate and estate cases. In addition, over the years she has developed expertise in handling appeals in the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals. She has won several precedent setting appellate cases and has a ninety percent reversal rate.

Celeste has served as a full time associate judge in the juvenile court of DeKalb County where she handled deprivation and delinquency cases. While practicing law full time, and for a period of nine years, she served as clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at Morehouse School of Medicine where she taught weekly workshops in ethics in law and medicine for psychology residents. She was also often called on to lecture to medical students in the areas of law and psychiatry.

Brewer is also a trained mediator, domestic relations mediator, arbitrator and case evaluator. Over the past 30 years, Celeste has also served as a guardian ad litem in superior court cases in which custody is an issue.

Brewer has served on the executive committee of the family law section of the State Bar of Georgia. Early in her career, she was one of the first recipients of the Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Award for pro bono work she did on civil rights civil and criminal cases in Wrightsville, Georgia. She was also honored by the Georgia Minority Judges as the recipient of the Judge with a Heart Award.

Rated preeminent (5.0 out of 5) by Martindale Hubbell, Brewer regularly serves as a consultant to other attorneys and law firms in various aspects of litigation, family law trial and appeals and general civil appellate work. She is a frequent speaker at continuing education seminars. Celeste brings with her years of experience in analyzing the law and its application in all areas on domestic relations litigation.
